Ring Floodlight Camera Motion-Activated HD Security Cam Black Friday Deals 2019
Today, I got a hold of the new ring floodlight cam and I’ll be doing the review from opening the box installing setup and browse some of its features and show you sample video footage so here are some key features this is a 1080p HD video camera with 2-way communication and infrared night vision it has advanced motion detection just like their doorbell also has a 110 decibels siren and emotion and remote-activated 3000 degree Kelvin LED floodlight the lights are activated by motion and also manually using the app and the security siren will only go off when you manually push it from the app so it will not go up unless you want it to go off well let’s open up the box say hello to ring the world’s most advanced floodlight here we have the whole unit already set up and ready to install you have here the wires there are only three of them that needs to be connected and if you’re installing this to replace your existing flood light in a junction box then this is basically a simple process of just swapping the light and the wires the lights and the camera and the sensor are adjustable so you can position them easily by just loosening the screws so what else is in the box we have a security decal a Quick Start Guide and installation manual which is pretty detailed on how to install this floodlight camera. We have the guide for setting up the app and collecting the camera and some light switch stickers you had to put the sticker on the light switch reminding you not to turn it off for the cameras to work it needs constant power and the floodlight will only turn on at night when it senses motion and you can manually turn on the lights by the app also we have the mounting bracket and we have a small box of installation kit in the box we have a Phillips screwdriver which is also a torque wrench on the other end same thing with the ring doorbell so you have that and we have a socket wrench that one is clean and we have some screws and wire nuts and we have a hanger wire so that we can hang the light unit when we are hooking up the wires as to the camera we have the camera lens here is a weatherproof speakers we have the mic and the motion sensor is both for the light and the camera and I think I’m stopped there’s a setup button all right so it’s time to install this floodlight cam safety first so we need to turn off the power from the lights of the breaker box then we have to remove the existing floodlight remove the bracket and unscrew the wires now start to install the mounting bracket and this is where I had an issue the Machine bolts that came with a kit were too big for the holes in the junction box so I have to use the old bolt from the original bracket that I just removed next we need to hang the crown using the hanger that came with a kit and hook up the wires black wire to black white to white and bare wire to ground then we’ll tuck in the wires inside the junction box and slide in the light through the two bolts on the mounting bracket and screw in the nuts and lastly we just need to adjust the camera and the lights and tighten the screws there you go now the light is installed the next step is to go download the Ring app in the App Store Google Play or Windows Store if you have that haven’t done it yet so let’s open up the app I already have the ring doorbell so I just need to add the floodlight camera click set up your device swipe left or right to get the floodlight cam click setup name your camera and choose your address click continue and it will prompt you to make sure the camera bottom sensor light is flashing and click yes then it will prompt you to exit the app and go into your Wi-Fi settings and logging into rings Wi-Fi and after you login you go back to the app now click which Wi-Fi you want to connect to type in the password and wait until it connects click on live view to view your camera now I’ll go outside to see how the camera looks there are some choppiness but I think because I just have an OK Wi-Fi connection now let’s check out the two-way communication anybody hello yes sir now the siren let’s see how loud it is free loud let’s try it again now I’ll show you the basic features of the app you can click the gear icon on the top right to show the option on renaming the device or to remove the camera altogether in here you can toggle the light control on or off by default the lights will turn on when it senses motion at night just like a floodlight with motion control so I’ll just let it be here we have the live view button and you can see the camera footage is pretty good 1080p and have a pretty good field of view I can basically see my whole front yard and you can turn on the speaker to listen in if you listen in on the recordings it is pretty clear clicking the plus icon you can turn on the siren or you can turn on and off the light now to hang up press the red phone button we also have the siren button here and this is a two-step process to turn it on okay we have the event history where you can view your recorded motions and live views and as you can hear the sound is pretty clear we have the device health option here where you can see how strong your inner connection is then we have the light settings where you can schedule timeframes for the lights to turn on or off which I’m not going to do at the bottom there’s the advanced settings where you can set motion zones for the light sensor you can adjust its sensitivity and there is also a timer for the light then we have the motion setting which I need to tweak on top is the slider which adjust the sensitivity of the sensor to the left is lesser activity and I’ll keep it in the middle now we have the motion zones which you have this dot that you can move around and adjust on which zones you want the sensor to monitor like in my case I don’t need to be alerted when cars pass by but I want to know and video recorded if somebody goes in my driveway or even around the grassy area then click Save you can even add another zone if you want now this is what I like about the ring because it is pretty good in picking up motion in the zone areas and the last two days I’ve been using it I never had a false detection yet right so click done to save you can also schedule motion detection if you want so if you have a lot of traffic in the morning for example and don’t want to get notified you can schedule it to just monitor at night or specific days or time range online I’m not going to tweak that so we have the link chimes this is another ring product we have shared users if you want other people our family to access the camera and basically it for the app now let’s check out some video footage this one at daytime I just chopped it up for privacy because of closer range you can make out the license plate this one the motion detection was activated and recorded this video and this footage is at night with the lights off and infrared on then I’ll turn on the light and that’s it all right final thoughts this ring floodlight camera is pretty innovative idea and I like the build quality as to the longevity I’ll do a six month and a year review on this and we’ll post a video if there are any issues that will come up now there are a couple of issues that want to bring up first the machine screws that are needed to attach the mounting plate the junction box is too big I don’t know if this is an oversight as you can see in the picture the right screw is the one that came from the kit and the left one is the one that is needed I use the screws from the bracket from the other light that I removed so it didn’t become a big issue with me and I’m pretty sure they will fix this in their future kits now there is a second one second issue like me there will be a lot of people that will be installing this in the garage as you can see I have a brick home and the garage door is metal I have issues with connectivity with my Wi-Fi I can pick up my neighbor signal across the street but not mine I needed to use an expander that I place in the garage just to make it to work so for anybody that wants to install this check out your Wi-Fi signal first with a garage door closed and make sure you have a good signal ring also sells a ring chime Pro that is an extender plus chime that I will check out and review in the next couple weeks and I’m hoping that it will fix my connectivity issue aside from that I’m happy with this floodlight camera I like that they’re motion detection is pretty spot-on.
